Dear Parents:
Welcome to fourth grade. I am very excited for your child to be a part of our classroom community. In our classroom, we foster a community of learners that develop as independent thinkers that use their strengths and improve their weaknesses to increase their learning as well as to help others in our classroom. We can learn a lot from each other.
Throughout the year, your child will be an author, an illustrator, a mathematician, a scientist, a historian, and much more. We will travel through earth’s materials, look deep into life cycles, and be enlightened by electricity. We will explore California’s beginning, look at why and how Missions were built, and try to strike it rich with California’s Gold. As a reader we will closely read complex texts and compare a variety of literary devices used by authors. We will write summaries, narratives, and respond to literature. While doing all of this we will look deep into place value, unit conversions, geomentry, and fractions. Of course, we will also be multiplying and dividing larger numbers.
To help your child accomplish all of the goals to move on to fifth grade, some basic skills and study habits will need to be in place. Please work with your child on mastering addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. Encourage them to complete their homework daily and study for up coming tests. Stress the importance of school and homework. Don't forget to read together as a family!
